This work is a grid of captioned portraits from Sky News, taken during each hour of February 21st 2014, and alternating between news and advertising broadcasts. Whilst the journalism implies a position of omniscient gravity as a continuum of global tragedies is played out, the eternally sunlit uplands of marketing fantasy propose a very different view of reality. When watching such channels, these visual and linguistic discrepancies may register only occasionally – over a period of time. By delineating them in a flattened, two-dimensional typology, this work hopes to allow the schism between news and advertising’s worldviews to be apprehended all at once.
